UMW Baseball Falls at Stevenson, 11-10

The University of Mary Washington baseball team carried a 10-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning, but couldn't hold on in an 11-10 loss at Stevenson University on Sunday in Owings Mills, Md. The Eagles fall to 5-6-1 overall and 2-3 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

For seven innings, junior lefty Torey Mancari was on top of his game, allowing two earned runs on five hits, with four walks and four strikeouts. When the Eagles plated six runs in the top of the eighth to extend the lead to 10-2, the Eagles went to the bullpen, with very bad results. The Mustangs scored five times in the eighth inning on five hits, and then scored four more times in the ninth to win the game via five hits.

For the Eagles, in addition to Mancari's tough-luck no decision, sophomore Ben Sisk went 4-5 with a double and three RBI, senior Santino Rosanova went 3-4 with a walk, and Kevin Yarnell went 2-4 with a walk. Shortstop Brent Steffey homed in the game for UMW.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Washington & Lee University at 3:00 p.m.
