UMW Baseball Closes with 4-3 Win Over Methodist

Senior right hander Zach Hendrix threw six innings in gaining the win, and senior Matt Abramson threw three innings of relief in gaining the save in a 4-2 University of Mary Washington baseball victory over Methodist University on Tuesday in the season finale. The Eagles close with a 13-20-1 record on the year.

The Eagles jumped on top with a run in the second, as Seth Jordan doubled and scored on a single from Connor Finnerty. UMW upped the lead to 3-0 in the third, as senior Santino Rosanova singled to lead off the inning, and moved to second on error on a ground ball from Jake Rudman. Brendan Jones walked to load the bases, and Ben Sisk knocked home two runs with a single to left field.

The Eagles added what would be the winning run in the fourth, as Finnerty led off with a single and moved to third on a pair of groundouts. Rudman plated Finnerty with a single to left, upping the score to 4-0. Methodist responded with two runs in the fifth and one in the ninth, and had runners on second and third with two outs, but Abramson struck out the final batter to end the game.

Rudman and Finnerty led the Eagles with two hits each, while Sisk added the key blow with his two-run single. Hendrix, who missed last year after Tommy John surgery, allowed two runs on five hits in six innings in gaining the win. Abramson allowed two walks but no hits in his three innings of relief.
