UMW Baseball Falls to York, 7-4

The University of Mary Washington baseball team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but dropped a 7-4 decision to York College in Capital Athletic Conference action at Dickinson Stadium on Friday. The Eagles, now 11-16-1 overall, must sweep York on Saturday in a doubleheader to advance to next week's CAC Tournament.

UMW scored first with a run in the first. With two outs, Ben Sisk doubled and scored on a Brent Steffey single. The Eagles added another run in the second, as Connor Wells reached on an error, stole second base, and scored on a Shane Sixsmith single.

The Spartans took the lead for good with a five-run fourth, thanks to four hits, two errors, and a walk. UMW cut the deficit to 5-4 in the siixth with a two-run double from Santino Rosanova, but York scored two runs in the next frame to return the lead to three.

Rosanova and Sisk's doubles led UMW's eight-hit attack, as eight different hitters each had one hit. Junior Torey Mancari allowed two earned runs on seven hits in six-plus innings, with three walks and eight strikeouts. Jake Black allowed two hits and no runs in in three innings of relief.

The teams will play a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday at Dickinson Stadium, with UMW needing a sweep to gain the sixth seed in the CAC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday.
