UMW Baseball Tops St. Mary's, 5-0

Junior pitcher Mike Straub allowed just four hits in 5.1 innings, and sophomore Nick McGovern pitched 3.2 innings of two-hit relief, as the University of Mary Washington baseball team blanked St. Mary's College, 5-0, on Sunday in St. Mary's City, Md. The Eagles improve to 9-12-1 overall and 4-8 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The Eagles jumped ahead with one run in the second, as Seth Jordan doubled, and scored on a Kevin Yarnell double. The Eagles scored twice more in the third as Jordan hit a two-run double, and added a run in the seventh on a Jake Rudman RBI single. UMW capped the scoring with a run in the ninth on consecutive doubles by Connor Wells and Rudman.

Yarnell led the Eagles with three hits in four at bats, and Jordan doubled twice. Rudman and Wells singled and doubled, and Connor Finnerty singled twice.

The Eagles will return to action on April 5 when they host Catholic University at 3:30 p.m
