Talbert's Gem Leads UMW Baseball Past Apprentice, 13-0


Senior lefty Parker Talbert pitched a complete game four-hit shutout to lead the University of Mary Washington to a 13-0 victory over visiting Newport News Apprentice School on Tuesday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles improve to 26-15 on the season.

The Eagles jumped ahead with one run in the second inning, and held a 1-0 lead into the fifth, when UMW erupted for four runs. The Eagle offense added one run in the sixth, five in the seventh, and two more in the eighth for the 13-run win.

Eric Rehbein, Mitch Herringshaw, and Seth Jordan each had three hits to lead the Eagles, with Rehbein, Jordan, and Jeff Rezach each driving in two runs. Jackson Clement and Ben Sisk each had two hits for UMW, who collected 18 hits in all for the day.

Talbert allowed just four hits and one walk, striking out 10 batters in the nine-inning shutout, throwing 101 pitches on the day.

Mary Washington will visit Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
