#23 UMW Baseball Drops CAC Twinbill to Wesley

The 23rd ranked University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader to Wesley College, 3-1 and 8-6, on Saturday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles fall to 13-5 overall and 5-4 in CAC play.

In the opener, the Eagles could muster just two hits against Wesley's DJ Keckler, a pair of singles by Mitch Herringshaw and Beattie Southerland. Senior lefty Parker Talbert took the tough luck loss, allowing one earned run on nine hits in four innings.

In the second game, Wesley jumped ahead 6-1, but UMW fought back with a four-run fourth to cut the deficit to 6-5. Each team scored in the fifth, and Wesley added an insurance run in the seventh for the two-run win.

Shane Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) led the Eagles with four hits in the nightcap, with Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson) adding a double and two singles and Chris Moore (Glen Allen, Va., Douglas Freeman) three hits. Brent Steffey had two hits for the Eagles, who committed four errors in the contest.

Freshman Jake Black took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in three innings, with one walk and four strikeouts.

The Eagles will be back in action Sunday when they visit Gallaudet University for a nonconference twinbill at 1:00 p.m.
