Talbert Leads UMW Baseball Past LaGrange, 6-2, in NCAA Regional 2nd Round
Junior lefty Parker Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va., Cape Henry Collegiate) pitched a complete game seven hitter to elad the University of Mary Washington baseball team to a 6-2 win over LaGrange College in the second round of the NCAA Division III South Regional in Fayetteville, N.C. on Thursday. The Eagles improve to 28-12 on the year, and will move on to face top-seeded Shenandoah University on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in a matchup up the two unbeatens left in the bracket.

The Eagles jumped on the scoreboard first, plating a pair of runs in the third inning, thanks in large part to junior second baseman Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga)'s two-run single with two outs. LaGrange tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the third, but UMW plated a run in the fourth with sophomore Shane Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac)'s bases-loaded walk and another in the sixth when junior right fielder Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson) singled, advanced to second on a Santino Rosanova (Laurel, Md., DeMatha) single, and scored on a double play.

The Eagles scored twice more in the seventh as Sixsmith and Rehbein singled before senior left fielder Will Wright (St. Louis, Mo., St. Louis Priory)'s two-run triple with one out.

Talbert went the distance, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in nine innings with no walks and four strikeouts. At the plate, Sixsmith led the way with three hits and a walk, with two runs scored and an RBI. Wright singled and tripled and drove in two, while Rehbein went 2-5 with a run scored and two RBI.
