Espinosa's Five Hits Leads UMW Baseball Past Randolph-Macon

Senior catcher Nick Espinosa (Arnold, Md., Broadneck) went 5-6 with three runs scored to lead the University of Mary Washington baseball team to an 18-8 victory at Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday. Senior left fielder Will Wright (St. Louis, Mo., St. Louis Priory) had three hits and six RBI for the Eagles, who also received home runs from Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) and Santino Rosanova (Laurel, Md., DeMatha).

The Eagles fell behind, 3-0, in the first, but scored five times in the second to take the lead. UMW plated five runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and three in the seventh for the win. UMW rapped out 23 hits in the game, with Espinosa gaining five hits, and Rehbein, Wright, Seth Jordan (Springfield, Va., South County), and Rosanova each gaining three hits. Seamus Bergen, Shane Sixsmith and Jackson Clement each had two hits for UMW.

Rehbein and Clement each had three RBI, and Clement scored four runs to pace the Eagles.

Freshman Nick Corbin (Staunton, Va., Buffalo Gap) pitched eight innings of relief in gaining the win, allowing seven hits and two earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts.

Mary Washington will host St. Mary's College in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
