The University of Mary Washington baseball team overame a two-run deficit in the ninth and a three-run deficit in the tenth inning to defeat Wesley College, 11-10, in 11 innings in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles move to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in CAC play.

Mary Washington built an early 3-0 lead, but Wesley tied the game with three runs in the fifth inning. Wesley gained a one-run lead with a score in the seventh inning, but the Eagles rallied for two runs to take a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh.

Wesley answered with runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to take a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth. With none out, Nick Espinosa (Arnold, Md., Broadneck) singled, and Shane Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) followed with a fielder's choice. Junior right fielder Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson) followed with a home run to centerfield to tie the score in dramatic fashion.

Wesley came right back with three runs in the top of the tenth inning on three hits. The Eagles came right back with three runs of their own, as Will Wright (St. Louis, Mo., St. Louis Priory)'s leadoff triple, singles from Alex Howell (Glen Allen, Va., Hermitage) and Santino Rosanova (Laurel, Md., DeMatha), and a clutch two-run hit from catcher Aaron Byrd (Fredericksburg, Va., Chancellor) tied the score at 10.

The Eagles scored the winning run in the 11th on an Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) single, a Wright double, an intentional walk to Seth Jordan (Springfield, Va., South County), and a game-winning single from Howell.

Senior Dan Lockbaum (Pedricktown, N.J., Penns Grove) pitched a scoreless tenth inning with a pair of strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.

Offensively, the Eagles were led by Rehbein and Seamus Bergen (Fredericksburg, Va., Chancellor), who each had three hits. Wright doubled and tripled, and Howell, Rosanova, and Espinosa each collected two hits. Grant Morlock had four hits for Wesley.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Wesley.
