UMW Baseball Falls to Frostburg, 13-8

Senior left fielder Will Wright (St. Louis, Mo., St. Louis Priory) went 4-5 with a home run, but his strong effort wasn't enough as the University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 13-8 decision to Frostburg State University on Tuesday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles fall to 6-1 on the season.

The Eagles jumped ahead early, scoring a pair of runs in the first and another in the third to lead, 3-2, after three innings. But Frostburg's bats came alive in the middle innings, scoring four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth and seventh frames to take a 12-7 lead after seven innings. Frostburg added one run in the eighth, and Wright hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth.

Wright had three singles and a home run, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) and Seth Jordan (Springfield, Va., South County) both went 2-4 for UMW, with Rehbein scoring three runs. Alex Howell (Glen Allen, Va., Hermitage) had an RBI double for the Eagles.

On the mound, UMW freshman Torey Mancari (Warrenton, Va., Paul VI) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in four innings. Four Eagle relievers allowed eight earned runs in five innings.

Mary Washington will host Salisbury University on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
