VA Lottery Throwback Moment: Blelloch's Goal, Assist Lift Men's Soccer in NCAA Tourney

Virginia Lottery presents today's UMW Athletics Throwback Moment. Today, we look back to November 16, 1996, when a goal and assist by senior Chris Blelloch lifted the Eagle men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Maryville (Tenn.) College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

After a scoreless first half, Blelloch found junior Craig Gillan for the game's first score at 52:29, and, just 1:18 later, added an insurance tally of his own (assisted by Jason Fusaro and Dan Guariello) to give MWC a 2-0 lead they would hold.

The Eagles led in shots, 17-14, but Maryville led in corner kicks, 8-2. The Eagle defense scored its ninth shutout of the year, led by seven saves from goalie Jim Hummel.
