FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Mary Washington College women's soccer team scored goals on its first three shots after allowing an early goal to upset the fifth-ranked College of New Jersey, 3-1, in the MWC Soccer Classic. The win over TCNJ was the first ever for the Eagles over the Lions, who entered undefeated and coming off a win over Richard Stockton, who had defeated the Eagles earlier in the season, 4-1.

New Jersey's Traci Tapp opened the game's scoring at 9:49, scoring off a deflection off of MWC keeper Katy Cohen, who had made a save on Tapp's initial shot.

The TCNJ goal seemed to ignite Mary Washington, who then reeled off three goals in the next 13 minutes. Junior forward Johanna Klein responded with MWC's first goal one minute later, tapping in a misplay by the Lion defense.

Ellen Anderson headed in a chip from Sarah Downey for the Eagles' second score, and Kristen Mercer boomed in a right-footed shot from outside the penalty area for the third tally.

Cohen played perhaps the best game of her young career, making nine saves in a tremendous defensive effort. MWC had lost the five previous meetings with the New Jersey school.
