Inside the Nest: Meredith LeBel

The University of Mary Washington Athletic Department has launched a new student-athlete spotlight, "Inside the Nest." Each month, we will be celebrating student-athletes from different communities within our department. The focus for April is the Class of 2020.

Name: Meredith LeBel

Sport: Field hockey

Hometown: Gloucester, VA

Major: Biology and chemistry minor

Favorite Class:

Biochemistry 1 because it had the perfect combination of challenging content and comedic relief.

Favorite Professor:

Dr. Reif (biochemistry 1 professor)

Favorite part about being a UMW student-athlete:

Having the opportunity to continue playing the sport that I started in 3rd grade and having a team that was always there to support and challenge me.

Favorite thing to do in Fredericksburg:

Volunteer at Mary Washington hospital with a group of my best friends.

Fun fact about me:

I went on a medical mission trip to Panama with the UMW Global Medical Brigades club and while I was there I saw a sloth and got to participate in an indigenous dance ceremony.

Favorite UMW memory:

Walking across campus in the spring and fall times with friends and seeing the trees change color.

What has playing at UMW meant to you:

Playing at UMW has been such an amazing opportunity for me in terms of self-growth. I have been able to play the sport I love with a great group of girls and along the way I have learned so many life skills that will be invaluable to me in the future.

Post-graduate plans:

I will be attending Lincoln Memorial University Debusk College of Osteopathic Medicine and pursuing a career in primary care medicine.

I would like to thank:

My family and friends for supporting me both athletically and academically. My team and coaches for pushing me to become a better player. My professors for setting me up for academic success in the future.
