Inside the Nest: Luke Turney

Inside the Nest: Luke Turney

The University of Mary Washington Athletic Department has launched a new student-athlete spotlight, "Inside the Nest." Each month, we will be celebrating student-athletes from different communities within our department. The focus for April is the Class of 2020.

Name: Luke Turney

Sport: Soccer

Hometown: Dayton, MD

Major: Political Science

Favorite Class:

Recent Research in US Politics

Favorite Professor:

Dr. Emile Lester

Favorite part about being a UMW student-athlete:

Constantly being surrounded by a high character group of men that challenge me on and off the field.

Favorite thing to do in Fredericksburg:

Go on runs through downtown and along the river or hang with the guys outside of my house on College Avenue.

Fun fact about me:

My close friends call me "Nuts"

Favorite UMW memory:

There are so many fantastic memories, but some of my favorite are simply sharing meals with my teammates and best friends.  There was no better way to become closer to your team than to break bread with them.

What has playing at UMW meant to you:

Playing at UMW has meant the world to me.  It has made me a better player, a better leader, and a better person altogether.  I just hope I left a fraction of an impression on the program compared to what it left on me.

Post-graduate plans:

No current plans.

I would like to thank:

I'd like to thank Ben Ahrens, Idrissa Barrie, TJ Skeer, Jake Lovinger, Ethan Greene, Daniel Kalke, Jason Tillerson, Gabe Soriano, and Neil Mockler for coming up with me.  I've known these men since I came to UMW and I can call all of them family.
