As we near the end of our third annual Ten for Ten Challenge, we want to say a huge thank you to all of the student-athletes who have participated so far and made this such a success! We are consistently impressed with the dedication, passion, and generosity that our student-athletes exhibit on and off the field. UMW would not be what it is today without the support of our students, alumni, parents, and friends. If you haven’t given back yet – there’s still time! Ten for Ten will be going strong until midnight on October 10.
In the meantime, we hope you’ll enjoy the fourth and final interview with another generous young alum and former baseball star, Thomas Weaver ’17.
Eagle Club: Tell us a bit about your life right now. Where are you living; what are you focusing on?
Thomas Weaver: Currently, I am working three jobs and also furthering my education at UMW in their MBA program. I am living here in downtown Fredericksburg as I work for the University as an Assistant Baseball Coach and for the Athletics Ground Crew full time. My third job is a part time job for my father’s new process server company, 360 Legal Inc., that’s located in Sarasota, Florida.
EC: What is your favorite memory from your time as an athlete at UMW?
TW: As an athlete at UMW I had a great experience as a member and leader of the baseball team. My favorite memory was my senior year when we made an incredible underdog run in the last two weeks of the season, made the CAC tournament and ended up playing in the Championship game as a number six seed.
EC: For many young alumni, giving back is not at the top of their minds. What inspired you to do so?
TW: I was inspired to give back to our Athletic Department because through all of my experiences here at UMW it was very important to me to be able to give back to the place that gave me a great athletic experience. Now, as a UMW employee and being behind the scenes of most of the athletic fieldwork, I have a greater understanding and appreciation of all the hard work that was done to make my experience here memorable. I wanted to give back so current student-athletes have a great experience too.
EC: If you were speaking to a group of current Eagles, what would you tell them about the Eagle Club?
TW: If I were speaking to a group of current Eagles about the Eagle Club, I would tell them that this athletic booster organization is a great group of alumni, parents, and friends that support and bolster the student-athlete experience. This organization is a great addition to our Athletic Department, and helps each team enhance their general budget.
