The University of Mary Washington athletic department hosted its second annual Gala on Thursday, May 21. The lineup featured NFL Hall of Famer Darrell Green, Redskins all-pro running back Alfred Morris, and former Penn State All-American D.J. Dozier.
The program featured a served meal, comments from UMW President Richard Hurley and Director of Athletics Ken Tyler, and a panel discussion and question-and-answer forum with Green, Morris, and Dozier.
Attendees were able to pose for photos with the guests, and an expansive silent auction featured trips, jewelry, and sports items. A live auction featured autographed Redskins memorabilia, a love seat and couch from Trivett Furniture, and two trips, to Las Vegas and Punta Cana. A significant amount of money was raised during the evening.
"We are grateful to our sponsors, special guests and everyone who attended for making it such a special event celebrating our student-athletes", said Tyler afterward. "It was a great night to be an Eagle!"
UMW Dining Services/Sodexo was the presenting sponsor, with Union Bank, Silver Companies, and University Advancement serving as supporting sponsors.
