Checking in at #8 on UMW Top Ten for 2014-15: Women's Soccer, Women's Basketball Advance to CAC Championship Games

Our #8 choice in the 2014-15 University of Mary Washington Athletics' Top 10 comes from women's soccer and women's basketball, who both reached the Capital Athletic Conference Championships in their sports, taking very different routes.

The women's soccer team entered the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament as the sixth seed, defeating Penn State Harrisburg and Wesley to close the regular season to advance. In the first round, the Eagles beat third seeded St. Mary's, 3-2, on the road, to advance to the semifinals.

UMW downed second-seeded Salisbury, 2-1, with a pair of first half goals to advance to the conference title match. The Eagles fell at Frostburg, 2-0, to cap the season with a 12-7-2 overall record.

The women's basketball team raced to 20 wins as the second seed in the CAC Tournament, finishing the regular season with a 15-3 league record. After a first round bye, the Eagles handled Marymount, 60-46, for their third win over the Saints on the year to advance to the CAC Championship.

UMW played one of the most memorable games of the year in the final, taking nationally ranked Salisbury to double overtime before falling, 74-68. Claire Haeuptle scored 18 points, while Sarah Listenbee and Caitlin Ciniero each added 15.
