UMW Athletics' #1 Moment from 2014-15: Alex Anderson Breaks NCAA Record in Gaining Fourth National Title

The number one moment on the UMW Athletics top ten for 2014-15 is the continued dominance of Alex Anderson at the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships.

Anderson swam in three events at the NCAA Championships, breaking the existing NCAA Division III record in every event. He finished second in the 200 yard individual medley, and was one of three swimmers to surpass the old NCAA Division III record. His time was 1:46.46. After breaking his own NCAA Division III record in the 400 yard individual medley in morning preliminaries, Anderson broke it again on Thursday night in the finals, placing second with a time of 3:47.25, more than a second faster than his winning time from a year ago.

The most highly decorated athlete in University of Mary Washington history, Anderson capped his brilliant career in grand fashion on Friday night, breaking the NCAA Division III record in winning the 200 yard butterfly in day three of the Championships in Shenandoah, Texas.

The CAC Swimmer of the Year and UMW Male Athlete of the Year, Anderson finished his brilliant career with four national championships, and never finished worse than second in nine NCAA Championship finals.
