UMW's Raulston Named School's NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee

UMW senior tennis player Lindsay Raulston will be the school's NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee, as announced Thursday night at the Athletics Banquet. The award recognizes the top athletic and academic females in the nation at all levels of NCAA Athletics.

The NCAA established the Woman of the Year Award in 1991 to celebrate the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics. Now in its 24th year, the award is unique because it recognizes not only the athletics achievements of outstanding young women, but also their academic achievements, community service and leadership.

Raulston has shown outstanding ability in her sport as well as in the classroom.

As her, Partick Catullo says, “As Lindsay's coach at the University of Mary Washington, I have had the pleasure to know and work with her for the last three years. She joined the team as a freshman in the fall of 2010, and I have watched her mature into a responsible, mature, serious student and player who approaches challenges with a positive “can do” attitude.  She brings to all of her activities energy, enthusiasm, and commitment. She consistently performs as a strong team member and excels individually as well. She was able to excel in both athletics and as a strong academic student by managing and prioritizing her studies while handling a vigorous sports schedule.  This speaks to her overall organization, intellect and ability to learn, attributes that will serve her well after she graduates from UMW.

She quickly established herself on the team as a go-to person and has been ever-willing to work with team members; she has a deep-rooted spirit of helpfulness.  She is a valued member of our team, a true leader, and a tenacious worker.

Her athletic accomplishments are beyond compare. She has been named as an All-American in Singles 2012 and 2013, an All-American in Doubles in 2013, and the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VASID) Player of the Year in 2013.

She was named the CAC Rookie of the year in 2011, and the CAC Player of the year in 2012, 2013. A two-year team captain, her highest ITA National Rankings are #6 in 2013 for singles and #10 for doubles.
