The University of Mary Washington athletic department ranked 59th in the nation among more than 450 NCAA Division III schools in the 2013-14 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, released today.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a
joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate
Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded
based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine
women’s and nine men’s.
Mary Washington was the CAC's fourth-highest finisher among the 330
schools that scored in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup
standings. The Eagles, who earned spring points in men's and
women's tennis and men's lacrosse, finished 59th overall with
307.00 points, 33 points better than last year.
Williams won the 2013-14 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup for the
17th time in the last 19 years with 1,225.25 points. The Ephs
and fourth-place Washington (Mo.) University (924.25 points) were
the only school to score points in 18 sports.
Wisconsin-Whitewater ranked second overall with 1,134.75 points,
joining Williams as the only institutions to score more than 1,000
points during the 2013-14 season.
Johns Hopkins University, placed third overall with 977.50.
