The Capital Athletic Conference announced its April 15, 2013, weekly award winners:

 SOFTBALL
Frostburg State junior catcher/first baseman CAITLIN LOVEND (Laurel, Md./Reservoir), Mary Washington junior shortstop BIREET CHITTY (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and Salisbury sophomore pitcher RACHEL JOHNSON (Preston, Md./Colonel Richardson) were selected as the CAC Softball Athletes of the Week.
Lovend was named the Softball Co-Player of the Week for the second-straight week after banging out 13 hits in 28 at bats in eight games (.464 avg.) with a double, two homers, eight runs scored and 16 RBI.  She had at least two runs produced in six of the seven victories last week.
Chitty was named the Softball Co-Player of the Week after going 9-for-13 in four games (.692 average) in four games last week, including a 7-for-8 performance in the DH sweep vs. York that included a double, steal, three runs scored and two RBI.
Johnson was named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the sixth time in the last seven weeks.  Appearing in five of SU’s six games this week, she posted a 4-0 record with one save and a 0.27 ERA.  She surrendered one earned run on five hits and three walks in 26 innings while averaging almost two strikeouts per inning (51 K’s).  She threw a perfect game in a 7-0 win over Wesley and four no-hit innings in relief to get the 3-2 win over Catholic.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Mary Washington junior attack JENNA PETRUCELLI (Cranbury, N.J./Peddie School) and Salisbury junior goalie ASHTON WHEATLEY (Cambridge, Md./Salisbury School) were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week.
Petrucelli was named the Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week after exploding for 19 points on 17 goals and two assists in a pair of victories.  Petrucelli became the second UMW player, and third player in CAC history to reach double digits in the goals column against a conference rival when she found the back of the net 10 times last week against St. Mary’s.  She then matched Washington & Lee’s team scoring total in a 14-7 UMW victory on Sunday.
Wheatley was named the Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after recording 10 saves on 15 shots on goal as the second-ranked Sea Gulls defeated eighth-ranked TCNJ.  Wheatley also had a game-high three caused turnovers and shared game-high honors with three ground balls for the undefeated Gulls.
