Four UMW Athletes Named CAC Athletes of the Week

BASEBALL
        St. Mary’s sophomore C/1B JARED EAKER (Mechanicsville, Md./Leonardtown) and Mary Washington senior TOREY MANCARI (Warrenton, Va./Paul VI) were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week.
        Eaker was named the Baseball Player of the Week batting .556 (10-for-18) with two doubles, a triple, a walk, four runs scored and four RBI as the Seahawks won three of their first five games this season.
        Mancari was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week after posting a 0.54 ERA in 16 2/3 innings over three outings.  Mancari surrendered just one earned run on seven hits and six walks while fanning 22, including 10 K’s in a shutout victory over Penn State-Altoona.
 

SOFTBALL
        Salisbury freshman 3B KATIE SEBBANE (Frederick, Md./Urbana) and Mary Washington sophomore HANNAH OTTERMAN (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) were selected as the CAC Softball Athletes of the Week.
        Sebbane was named the Softball Player of the Week after banging out five hits in six at bats in a pair of Sea Gull victories in a season-opening DH vs. Eastern Mennonite.  Sebbane had a double and two RBI against EMU.
        Otterman was named the Softball Pitcher of the Week after hurling the Eagles to two wins in three outings, allowing just one earned run for a 0.38 ERA.  Otterman fanned 16 hitters in 18 1/3 innings in two starts and a relief appearance.


MEN’S LACROSSE
        Mary Washington junior attack BILLY KELLY (Reston, Va./Herndon) and Wesley senior defensive midfielder DAN TRYON (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) were named the CAC Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week.
        Kelly was named the Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week after contributing a hat trick and at least four points in all three UMW games, helping the Eagles win two of their first three games.  Kelly opened the season by scoring half of UMW’s goals in a 9-8 setback at Hampden-Sydney, then scored three goals in narrow victories over Randolph-Macon and McDaniel.  In addition to the three assists in the two wins, Kelly also had six ground balls, including four against McDaniel.
        Tryon was named the Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after registering career highs in ground balls as the Wolverines opened the season with a pair of victories.  Tryon finished the week with 18 ground balls in two games, including 11 Saturday vs. La Roche, forced two turnovers and contributed a point in each victory.


WOMEN’S LACROSSE
        Mary Washington senior attack KELLER TORREY (Rosswell, Ga./Centennial) and York senior defender KATIE VAUTIER (Harwood, Md./Archbishop Spalding) were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week.
        Torrey was named the Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week after scoring seven goals and adding four assists as the Eagles won two of their first three games this year.  Torrey found the back of the net five times in a season-opening victory at Christopher Newport, then added two goals and four assists in a CAC triumph at Wesley.
        Vautier was named the Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after collecting five draw controls and forcing three turnovers in the Spartans’ season-opening victory over Goucher.  Vautier also added a ground ball and contributed a strong defensive performance for YCP.
