The University of Mary Washington athletic department rolled out the red carpet for the 2013-14 student-athletes on Wednesday night for the second annual Welcome Program in the Anderson Center.

In addition to light refreshments and music, the program included a showing of the Martin Luther King Jr. March on Washington speech, and remarks from Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Jeff Rouse and Vice President for Student Affairs Doug Searcy.

New Director of Athletic Development Philip Pierce served as emcee and explained his duties in the new role created for the department. Director of Athletics Ken Tyler closed with remarks, guidelines, and goals for the upcoming year, and the group celebrated the department's winning of the Richard C. Cook CAC All-Sports Award for 2012-13.
